My career began with an apprenticeship in Electronic Engineering in the late 1980's and for the next 20 years I worked in blue chip organisations (e2v, BOC and Linde) and a small family business, evolving from engineering and project management to leading sales and new business development teams.
My specific area of business interest is strategy or 'the way businesses compete'. During my career I have been responsible for the creation of strategies and, most importantly, the successful implementation to make a difference to the bottom line. I combine this practical approach with an up to date academic knowledge through my work as an undergraduate examiner. I have a passion for supporting Solopreneurs and SME's in this area, helping them to lead the businesses they own.
Returning to work in 2015 after a family break, I took an opportunity, utilising my MA in Management and my own business experience, to work freelance marking ILM and undergraduate management qualifications.
Now, having assessed thousands of leadership assignments from a range of sectors including local authorities, further education, retail, banking and healthcare, I have a unique insight into the day to day challenges, issues and concerns of new leaders and I apply this insight to the creation and delivery training programmes and to my coaching work.
